ACO wijzigt reglement 2009
(15/7/2008) De Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO) heeft enkele details bekend gemaakt omtrent de wijzigingen in het reglement voor de 24 Uur van Le Mans van 2009. De teams hebben een brief ontvangen van de ACO waarin aanpassingen zijn aangekondigd voor 2009.
Het vermogen van de diesel motoren in de LMP1 klasse wordt teruggebracht. Datzelfde gebeurt met het vermogen van de LMP2 motoren. Er wordt ook onderzoek gedaan naar het verschil in prestatie tussen de standaard productie motoren en de race motoren.
Op het gebied van de aerodynamica wordt de achtervleugel van de prototypes onder de loep genomen. Tenslotte is het de bedoeling om de tijd die nodig is voor een bandenwissel aanzienlijk te verlengen.
De maatregelen zijn erop gericht om de prestaties van de auto's naar beneden bij te stellen, een balans te vinden tussen de verschillende types motoren en het prestatieverschil tussen de LMP1 en LMP2 klasse te handhaven. Halverwege september 2008 zullen meer details bekend gemaakt worden.

Prodrive baas David Richards heeft bevestigd dat Aston Martin Racing ten tonele zal verschijnen tijdens de 24u van Le Mans 2009, dat meldde de website Endurance Series vandaag. Nadat Richards de stekker uit zijn Subaru WRC team trok, en ook afhaakte om het Honda F1 team over te kopen blijkt er toch weer positief nieuws te zijn in het Prodrive kamp.
Naast de GT1 zou Richards namelijk ook het LMP1 project van Aston Martin nieuw leven willen inblazen. Richards zei oorspronkelijk al op de Autosport beurs dat Aston Martin aanwezig zou zijn, maar amper een dag later zorgde David Brabham voor heel wat verwarring wanneer hij verklaarde dat hij Aston Martin niet aan de start ziet verschijnen in Le Mans.
David Brabham ligt echter onder contract bij Acura voor hun LMP1 project in de American Le Mans Series anno 2009. David Richards zou vandaag op de Engelse radio verteld hebben dat Aston Martin toch aan de start zal staan tijdens de etmaalrace op La Sarthe. Het Japanse Team Goh, vroeger actief in Le Mans met de witte Audi R8, gaat zijn rentree maken in de endurance racerij. De Porsche RS Spyder LMP2, waarmee Jos Verstappen vorig jaar het LMS kampioenschap alsook de 24 uren van Le Mans mee op zijn naam schreef, is verkocht aan Team Goh. In 2004 was de Audi R8 van het Japanse team, met aan boord het trio Ara/Kristensen/Capello, goed voor de zege in de 24 uren van Le Mans. De Porsche LMP2 zal vermoedelijk ingezet worden in de LMS alsook tijdens de etmaalrace op Le Mans. Details over de piloten line-up zijn tot op heden nog niet bekend.

Team Modena are delighted to today announce that Leo Mansell, son of 1992 Formula One World Champion Nigel Mansell, will be one of the drivers in the team’s LM GT2 Ferrari 430GT for the 2009 Le Mans Series - and the Le Mans 24-Hour race itself. Leo will share the new car with team regular Antonio Garcia, one of the world’s leading GT drivers, with Nigel himself lending his experience from a lengthy and successful race career to the team’s cause.
“We are pleased to have Leo joining Team Modena,” says Team Principal Graham Schultz, “we are looking forward to a long relationship with Leo, and his partnership with Antonio Garcia should be a very strong one - Antonio has been a key part of Team Modena’s international race success. Our link with Nigel is exciting, he will bring his huge experience of motorsport to bear on our programme and help us move to a new level.”
“It’s wonderful to have Leo and Nigel on board,” says Sporting Director Rik Bryan. “The Mansells are a talented motorsport family and I think Leo will be suited to racing sportscars, and it’s fantastic to reunite the Mansell name with Ferrari!”
“I think Leo is a natural for sportscar racing, he really took to the cars we tested last year,” says Nigel Mansell. “The whole package has come together with the team, the Ferrari, Michelin etc, and we couldn’t ask for a better team-mate. It will be a very exciting season, it will be my first visit to Le Mans and I am looking forward to it!”
Twenty-four year old Leo has raced in single-seaters, notably the highly-competitive British Formula Three Championship, and the Atlantic Championship in the US in 2007 and 2008, and is a welcome addition to Team Modena. Antonio has raced with Team Modena since November 2005, and in that time has twice completed Le Mans and recorded ten LMS podium finishes in the team’s GT1 Aston Martin.
For Team Modena, the GT2 category has strategic long term importance, with a general trend in sportscar racing towards the category and a major world series in the offing. The 2009 campaign will also see the team form a relationship with Ferrari, one of the greatest names in world motorsport and a by-word for success and performance in motorsport. Multiple race winners in the LM GT1 class of the LMS in 2008 and acknowledged as the leading team in the category, the team will be aiming for that same level of success in the new challenge they now face.
The 2009 Le Mans Series schedule has already been announced by the organisers, with the five race season starting in Spain the first weekend of April, and then featuring endurance races in Belgium, Portugal, and Germany before finishing with a 1000km race at Silverstone in September 2009. The team will be contesting the 2009 Le Mans 24-Hour race on the weekend of 13th and 14th of June, aiming to continue their form in the race which has seen them never fail to bring their car to the finish.

Er is niet voor niets nu ook al een GT4 klasse. . Ze willen met 3 wagens aan de start komen, dus dit jaar nog een uitdage voor Audi

Aston Martin's LMP1 carAston Martin has confirmed plans to take on Peugeot and Audi in a bid for outright victory in the Le Mans 24 Hours this season.
The British manufacturer is to develop a V12-powered LMP1 car, which will be based on the 2008 Charouz Racing-run Lola that used the engine last year, but featuring significant aerodynamic re-profiling as well as some of the marque's styling cues.
The Aston Martin Racing-run cars, which have yet to be given an official codename, will be petrol-powered and carry the famous Gulf livery.
They are expected to make their first public appearance at a test in Paul Ricard on March 8, and will make their racing debuts in the Le Mans Series round at Catalunya on April 5, ahead of the 24 Hours in June.
Although Peugeot and Audi are clear favourites for Le Mans victory next year, a raft of changes to technical regulations to even up the performance of diesel and petrol powered cars should boost Aston Martin's chances of taking on the established front runners.
Aston Martin chairman David Richards admitted that the company's sights were set on victory, with this year marking the 50th anniversary of his company's only previous triumph in the event.
"How on earth did we get here? How could Aston Martin be so audacious as to go to Le Mans and challenge the benchmark teams with their turbo-diesel engines and the record of experience that they have had over the last years?" said Richards.
"2009 is a hugely significant year for Aston Martin at Le Mans and the challenge of reclaiming victory in this famous race for Aston Martin and Great Britain was simply too great to ignore. It's a leap of faith and a step into the unknown for us, it really is a David and Goliath exercise, but it is that British fighting spirit that we are going to give it a try and see what we can do.
"However, we do not underestimate the task. While we have won the GT1 class for the last two years, competing against the proven speed and endurance of the diesel-powered cars, with all their years of winning the prototype class, will be a massive undertaking. But one thing is for certain that unless you give it a go, you are not going to achieve anything."
The Charouz driving squad of Stefan Mucke, Jan Charouz and Tomas Enge will be retained by Aston Martin Racing for the Le Mans effort and a full LMS campaign.
The trio will also be joined by Briton Darren Turner, who has won the GT1 class with Aston Martin Racing for the last two years, and Harold Primat. A sixth driver is expected to be announced shortly.
Richards added that AMR have filed three entries for the 24 Hours, but that plans for a third car are far from finalised.
"We have the first test at Paul Ricard at the beginning of March, we will enter two cars in each of the Le Mans rounds, and we will have a test programme throughout the year," he said.
"There is the hope that we will run a third car at Le Mans, and we have actually entered three cars, but the third car is not yet a certainty."

Word wel een Aston Martin aangelegenheid met GT2 erbij (Niet erg BTW).
