You guys are incredibly friendly!!

Side bit of information: Two of my favourite candies from Holland are Droste chocolates and Hopjes coffee-flavoured candies.

Tim: I will leave NASCAR in the U.S. since I am not really a fan of that. I have been to one monster truck show with my son when he was 4 yrs old. It was quite loud!!

E60/M5 and Ricardo: There are two familiar faces! Thanks for the welcome.

Bracer: There is something special when getting a car signed by one of the original drivers. I have a #8 McLaren F1 GTR (UT 1/18) from the '97 FIA GT that I wanted your countryman Peter Kox to sign when the American Le Mans Series had its race just outside Toronto. Unfortuntely, the car has fragile doors and I decided not to. Peter was driving for the Krohn-Barbour Lamboghini team. sadly, it only lasted half a season before they abandoned their effort in the ALMS in 2004.

Here are two photos of the car that I took in 2004 at the Mosport International raceway (Please let me know if my photos do not meet your forum's photo guidelines. I will edit them if needed.)

Getting my cars signed by the original drivers sounds really cool though it indeed means taking a risk when you take your models outside to be autographed. I can only imagine how you handled the Vipers as they can be quite fragile models.....

By the way those Lamborghini's look awesome :worshippy: too bad the team didn't last :(

I would love to have more DTM cars in 1/18. But very few companies have made them in a long time. Only Maisto makes some CLK DTMs. Minichamps would be the next best for DTM cars in 1/43 scale. Thank you also for your kind words for my photos.

Are there any Dutch drivers who compete in the DTM series? I only know a few Dutch names like Jan Lammers, Peter Kox and Tom Coronel. I know some drivers in North America drive in several different race series in one year. Are European drivers like that also?

ferrariboy: I used a website http://members.freewebs.com/ to build my site. They use templates which makes it a little bit easier to create a website. I use another website called http://www.photobucket.com to store my photos because their basic service is for free. It is quite easy to understand their features, it is not very complicated so they get many people using their site who are not a genius with the computer and do not know computer programming and all that fancy stuff. If I can offer you any help or suggestions, please let me know and I will see how I can help. Afbeelding

Bracer: The Autoart 1/18 cars are good because I just bring the hoods to the race track. I wrap them in t-shirts and put about 4 of them in my knapsack (bag) to carry them in. You are very right to say the car is fragile (especially the rear spoiler, antenna and side mirrors).

I spent about 1/2 hr speaking to one gentleman in the Krohn-Barbour team paddock (tent). He explained to me they were getting very little support from the Lamborghini factory. So, their two cars were very slow and could not keep up with the factory-suppored Corvette Racing C5-Rs and ACEMCO Saleen S7-R. I think they were only a little faster than the outdated Viper GTS-R.

Schumi28:
The camera is about 3 years old. It is a Canon S30 which can take photos in automatic or manual modes. It is only 3.2Mpix so that is why some of my photos are not very sharp. To photograph my models, I use the "M" mode where I can control the shutter speed and f-stop. I maximize the f-stop to 8 (the largest setting) so as much of the model will be in focus. I adjust the shutter speed until I am happy with what I see in my LCD display on back of the camera. I set my picture dimension to 2048x1536 pixels.

I saw one person make a custom version of that car in 1/18. I think he used a Maisto or Hot Wheels Murcielago body and made his own decals. It looks really good eventhough not all the details are accurate! The only thing he did not do was make the fender flares so the body comes out more around the wheels. That is very difficult to do!

Here are some pictures originally posted here

Maisto is the one who did made the Mercedes DTM cars from 2000 till 2003, unfortunetly every year less.

Minichamps did made from the 2000 serie al the Opel Astra's, then the stopt with it. :|

The Audi's from 2000 till ..... were never make :(

But many DTM cars(Mercedes, Audi, Opel en BMW) from the past (1988 till 1995 and ITC 1996) were made from varius manufactures like Minichamps, UT-models and AutoArt.
AutoArt has produced last year some new 1:18 cars from the 1991 and 1992 series, And according the AA site they will make a few more  They are worth collecting them. Afbeelding

Yes for 1:43 cars Minichamps is the best  , why don't you check out my privat collection  (no, St. Paul, not that )

Dutchdrivers in the DTM:

In 1991 Cor Euser has driven for BMW
From 2001 <-> 2004 Christijan Albers has driven for Mercedes
From 2001 <-> 2002 and in 2003 a few races Patrick Huisman has driven for Mercedes
and From 2003 till 2004 Jeroen Bleekemolen has driven for Opel

2006 is still open, but there are little talks that Jos Verstappen will take part of the DTM 2006, but there just talks

I know that Tom Kristensen is a driver who is driving for Audi in the DTM and Le Mans.

I hope my english isn't that bad as i think it is :shifty:

I noticed UT and Minichamps 1/18 DTM have become quite difficult to find these days. For me, eBay is the best place to find them. Even in a large city like Toronto, there are not very many diecast stores I can walk into to find older models.

I really like Minichamps' (ACTION) 1/18 Opel Astra DTM cars!! I only have three but would love to get some more. The one driver by Reuters is beautiful. It is not as well detailed as some newer cars but perhaps it is because they were made quite a few years ago using more older methods (?). I bought the Minichamps 1/43 version but I find the wheels do not look that good. The paint is not even and there are little bumps along the edge of the wheel.

How do I see your private collection? I clicked your www button but I guess your site is under construction?

I see quite a few names I recognise like Albers, Huisman, etc. Tom K. moves around and is so talented! He and Audi look like they are "married" to each other.

I think your English is great! Did you learn much of your English from school? It is helpful to know more than one language these days. I speak some French as well (I read it better than I speak it) so I can understand some Dutch words used here like "Bibliotheek" because it sounds like the French word "bibliotheque" which is "library". Cheers!

Thank you vovlofiel for your warm welcome. Your comments on my site is much appreciated. Truly, the honour is mine to be with such enthusiastic and friendly model collectors. The internet is fantastic because it brings people from different countries together so easily. I think I do understand your last sentence. Are you saying it is appropriate (or good) to study English?
