This month we've fired the DC20 at one of our resident 1/43rd scale experts, Faultier.
1. Tell us a bit about yourself.
I´m 22, from germany(sp please excuse me for my funny english) and I love cars (Top Gear, models, real cars, magazines whatever) and ladies
2. When did you start collecting and why?
Actually I have been collecting models for all my life. Starting with Matchbox,SIKU,Hot Wheels, over some 1/18 BBuragos, then 1/87 Herpa and finally in Feb. 2000 with 1/43 Minichamps which I´m still collecting and the passion and pleisure is still growing.
3. What type and scale of cars are the majority of the collection?
I only collect 1/43 but then it depends on how I like the real car. The majority are sports cars (simply because I love Lamborghinis and have nearly 30 of them)
4. Why do you buy what you buy?
I just like the real car or the model or both. Very simple method, isn´t it
5. What was your first model?
relating to my current collection, it was a red Ferrari F512M by Minichamps.
I also have a fire-truck from Matchbox which was given to me actually before I was born
6. How many do you have now?
about 250
7. Where do you display them?
Have a look at the photo-section, where I put photos of them. Photos can tell more about it then 1000 words.
8. What is your favorite in your collection?
very hard to tell. I don´t wanna miss any of my models.
I´m a very proud owner of some rarities like the black Porsche 964 Turbo or the white 930 Turbo. Its nice to see them fetching such high prices on ebay.
9. Do you collect anything other than cars?
I collect Top Gear episodes and Top gear Videos. I also buy every year the new car-catalogue. I have all of them since 1987.
10. What did you miss out on when it came out and are now hunting high and low for?
Lambo Miura in black, gold and red
Mc Laren F1 in red, silver, green
fortunetely PMA has a heart and releases the red MAC again
11. What's the most/least expensive models in your collection?
the most should be the white Porsche 930 Turbo (not the hebbo-one)
the least...maybe my IXO Countachs. Got them for little money so it does not really bother me.
12. What do you dislike about models?
time to arrive. It really hurts to see a model-announcement and then have to wait years for it to come
13. What do your family/friends think?
better than spending the money on drugs my dad is also amazed about the details of the models but he does not want me to spend my birthday-money etc. on them. I should by other more important stuff from it. A bit sad that he is not as enthusiastic as I am
14. What was the last model you bought and what is your next one going to be?
actually I got six models very recently. One of them was the amazing Ferrari Enzo by Kyosho.
My next will be the Bentley Continental Flying Spur which will come this week
15. Who is your favorite manufacturer?
Minichamps
16. Ferrari and Mattel. Good or bad?
no longer important because Mattel sold the license to people who know how to make descent Ferraris in 1/43 (IXO and Kyosho)
otherwise if PMA make Ferraris again we would see them in more interessting and unusuall colors. But never say never.
17. Where do you purchase the majority of you collection and why?
online, even with postage cost pretty cheap and the best way for "sloths" like me.
18. What one car would you like to see made into a diecast?
Fiat Tempra
19. What developments would you like to see in the diecast market?
well..faster, the logos not as decals, but as real parts. Hard to explain...imagin a lambo in 1/43 and the bull on the hood is not a decal, but a metal-part.
20. What would you like to happen to your collection when you die?
very hard to tell. It would break my heart (even when I´m already dead) if my collection would be destroyed or so. I´d like it to rest in a museum or a hospital or so and kids could watch it and get happy.
