de mensen een hoop geld laten uitgeven en dan gaat je model sheuren en de verf afgaan en de rubbers vergaan.

Nog een bericht op de website van CMC:
Hello CMC,
I'm from Italy and I'm very proud to own several of your model. Some days ago, I opened the box of my M.B. W196 Monoposto firist edition, and I realized with my much surprise that the paint was completely cracked!!! It's the second time that this happens (the first one was on the front hood of MB 300 sl Le Mans Limited Edition!!!). Now, I'm wandering about the paint reaction of my other models. Could you please explain me the reason why it happen and possibly suggest the care and the prevention? I'm waiting for your model of M.B. 300slr 1/18 1955!
Thanks; Ale

Hi,
I'm an enthusiast of CMC's 1/18 collection since the first model I bought, the M-B W165. Over the years, I've been able to testify the improvement in model engineering and construction. The latest releases are fantastic, true masterpieces! The 1/18 versions of the Ferrari 250GT, or the M-B SLR McLaren, just to name a few, are definitive!!
Unfortunately, I've lost two models I loved, due to poor material quality, or so I guess. With the Mercedes W196R monoposto (first release, no racing livery), almost all suspension/steering parts deteriorated until the simple steering movement made them break into many pieces.
Things went equally bad with my Mercedes 300SL Carrera Panamericana #4 (1/18, first release). For safety reasons, I didn't put it on a shelf, keeping it in its original styrofoam package since purchase, 6 years ago. To my surprise, when I took it out of the box to take a look, I saw the chassis was so twisted and deformed that one could stick a finger between it and the body! I replaced it by a flat piece cut out of a brass sheet, only to cover the model's undercarriage.
Thus, once this model is being reissued in another version, would it possible to acquire a replacement for the chassis?
Thank you,
Marcelo

Dear Marcelo, it`s always very hard to judge a model by a guestbook entry. CMC is producing now miniatures for more than 11 year but things like you are describe them are not day-to-day to us. Even after many year, there should be no problem with any materials. Fact is, that the steering-mechanism of the models is a very sensitive thing and you have to be careful if you use it. So our proposal is, if you visit your dealer the next time show him the models. If this can be undone with any spareparts, we will be happy to provide your dealer with all he needs. Your CMC-Team!
